What is Art Take Part?
Art Take Part is an initiative of Voluntary Arts Ireland and Culture Northern Ireland, supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Art Take Part is an online search facility and guide providing people with information about the many local arts activities they can take part in across Northern Ireland.
Who is it for?
Art Take Part is for all organisers of creative activities including artist / facilitators, tutors, education providers, cultural institutions – anyone who offers creative activities that are open to the public. And, of course, Art Take Part is for anybody who wants to take up a creative activity (or try something new or take an arts or crafts practice to the next level).
What is the best way to find out about creative activities that are happening close to you?
Our research shows that word-of-mouth and your local press / media are still really good ways to find out what's going on. So ask around to see if anybody you know is already taking part, keep an eye out for community / church bulletins, ask at your local arts centre. That said, as access to the internet increases, more and more people are expecting to find out about local services and opportunities online. That's why we’ve provided online listings.
How do you look for an arts activity?
Type the name of your chosen activity into the search box at the top of the main page. Use the Category and Area dropdown menus to filter your results. If you know the name of a group or provider you would like to contact you can also use this search. You will get two types of results – Activities listed by date and Groups which specialise in particular art forms. Click the result that comes closest to what you want. Be patient – you may get results you don’t need. Scroll down or try a slightly different wording.
You can also have a look at Facebook or Twitter; social networks are an easy way for smaller arts groups to advertise their activities without having to maintain a website. At the bottom of our homepage you will find the Art Take Part Twitter and Facebook links. These will give you a flavour of the many arts opportunities and activities available via social networks. If you still can’t find a match it may be worth contacting an arts activity provider or a related activity in another county as they may know of a group in your area that isn’t listed on the internet. You never know – you may come across the arts activity of your dreams.
How do creative activity providers join Art Take Part?
If you want to join Art Take Part and add your details to the online listings you will find our Group Upload facility at the bottom lefthand corner of the page. Anyone who offers arts activities to the public can become an Art Take Part group including individual providers, local arts groups and arts centres. We have tried to make the process as straightforward as possible. Contact us at info@arttakepart.org if you need help.
